Marmalade makers wanting to enter The World’s Original Marmalade Awards & Festival have just over a fortnight left to perfect their citrusy concoctions, parcel up their jars and post them off for judging.

Entries for the 2011 World’s Original Marmalade Awards & Festival need to be received no later than Sunday 6 February and so a final a’peel’ is being made for last minute entrants to get their skates on. With a glut of recent headlines suggesting UK marmalade sales are falling, festival organisers are hoping to prove the preserve is still popular with Brits and that a growing number are now making their own.

Inspired by The Great British Bake Off on the BBC we've been cooking scones to eat with cream and jam for the classic cream tea.

Using Paul Hollywood's scone recipe these were perfect with our recently made raspberry jam.

As the pickle and preserve website has been going for over a year now I thought it would be interesting to see what the most popular recipes have been amongst visitors.

I came across a lovely story about a lady called Moira Starkey in the local paper today.

Moira has raised almost £7,000 for Breast Cancer Haven from a variety of methods including from selling jams and pickle.

As reported in the Telegraph, and commented on by  Blagger, sales of jam making equipment have increased sharply this year.
