These ideas for packaging jam and other preserves would be great for gifts, they use vintage jars with labels using a simple font.
Vintage jars can be picked up in charity shops and flea markets, just make sure to carefully clean and steralise them before using.
If the jars don't have lids they can be sealed using waxed circles which, when placed directly onto the surface of the warm jam, create an airtight seal. The jar can then be finished off with a decorative paper jar cover.

I've been looking around for some inspiration for sloe gin labels, as some of ours will probably be and parceled up for Christmas presents. This example from the 1920's is a beauty, the original can be found at the International Poster Gallery.
I rather like the idea of putting superior quality on my own sloe gin labels.

My sister is an expert maker of pickles and preserves, and made a large batch of red onion marmalade with balsamic vinegar for consumption with the mountains of cheese at her recent wedding.
While she couldn't quite remember the exact recipe, it was similar to this red onion marmalade recipe. I would highly recommend it as an alternative to using brown onions.

I'm always on the look out for new presentation ideas for jars of preserves, today I stumbled across these lovely free printable jam tags from domestifluff.
Probably a bit fiddly for everyday use, but ideal for presents.
If you're giving a selection of preserves as presents it might also be worth investing in a few matching jars, just to add a final touch of professionalism.
