This blackberry and apple recipe is the classic autumn jam.
1.8kg blackberries
300ml water
700g cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2.7kg sugar
knob of butter
Place the washed blackberries in a saucepan with half the water and simmer until soft.
Put the apples in a preserving pan with the remaining water and simmer until soft, then pulp witha wooden spoon or potato masher.
Add the blackberries and sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved, then add a knob of butter.
Bring to the boil and keep boiling for about ten minutes stirring frequently.
When setting point is reached remove any scum with a slotted spoon and pot in sterilised jars.
