400g sloes
150 g white granulated sugar
about 500ml cheap gin

Method

Wash and dry the sloes, discarding any bad ones.

Put in the freezer overnight.

Allow to thaw then prick with a fork or needle.

Put the sloes and sugar in a sterilised 1 litre screwtop bottle or wide necked sealable jar, then top up with the gin.

Give it a good shake every few days for a few weeks then leave for several months shaking occasionally.

The gin can be tasted after a few months and more sugar added if necessary.

Strain off the sloes before drinking.
